The BIM Symphony
Bim is like playing music. First you must choose the tool and learn the rules. Then you forget the rules and BIM from your heart. The BIM as Symphony need the orchestra maestro, If there was no maestro there, then the front would be ahead in the whole song, and the back would be off into space. The music would sound completely horrible and off! as a designer you are writing the words and choosing the rhythm thats why you must learn the rules.
A lot of people find it very hard to find a BIM user still using pencil and tracing paper, i always start with a quick sketch and as a technology addict I like to be updated and constantly checking for new software to upgrade my process, I embrace technology and believe in it.
Also I believe that Architecture is a mix between art & science, Talent & Technology.
Starting your design process using BIM tools is as easy as playing a piano or using pencils, you don’t have to be a super genius to do great things with BIM. All you need to do is just choose the right tool that matches with your ideas and whatever you do “Don’t Panic”.
Information is probably the most important part of BIM. In the BIM process component schedules such as door and windows schedules are directly tied to the objects in the model. Delete or change the type of a door, the schedule updates too. Add the specification code to the door and now anywhere you add text to that door, it will populate it with the specification code and text.
Modeling is what many perceive BIM to be. We are all moving to 3D, right? Partly. Yes, BIM does produce a 3D model but you can also work in 2D. The designer can still place rooms, walls, doors and furniture on the plan in 2D without having to worry about the heights of these objects. Eventually when the time is right, probably as elevations and sections are being created, the 3D properties need to be considered. But for a little extra work, you now have plans, elevations, sections and as many 3D views as you want. Plus 3D brings the fun back into design.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is changing how buildings, infrastructure, and utilities are planned, designed, built, and managed
The BIM History The theory of Building Information Modeling was developed by scholars at Georgia Institute of Technology in the late 1970s. It progressed quickly. Construction teams have found value in using BIM to integrate the process of the construction industry. The term Building Information Modeling, first used in 2002 to describe virtual design, construction and facilities management, and gained traction with the release of several BIM authoring tools this decade.
Today BIM is a moving target that is making progress daily and as users become more sophisticated in its applications; BIM has shown the ability to improve the planning, execution and close-out phases of the construction process, and it here to stay.
When people talk about BIM it is easy to fall into the trap of thinking about it simply as a software product. It is true that BIM is about technology, but it’s also about collaboration and ensuring the whole process is agreed and understood when working on a project
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a process that begins with creating an intelligent 3D design model and then uses that model to facilitate coordination, simulation and visualization, as well as helping owners and service providers improve how buildings and infrastructure are planned, designed, built and managed.
BIM will make it faster and easier for all types of projects.
Time is money and waiting costs money In the first two or three projects it will not save money as It forces teams to work in new ways, all work in 3D, which involves expensive investment in hardware, software and training. but its going to save alot of coordination times and reduces the number of RFI’s. i do believe that in the long run it will save money.
how do you learn computer Software ? you learn the basic, and find a problem that you love solving. If the user has good experience in using the softwares, the potential of the success increases This experience ranges to:
the general experience of using computers
the general experience of using specific design software
the user’s experience of using these software in conceptual design phase.
There are many choices on BIM Software’s list of BIM providers for the different categories..
BIM will give you the ability to quickly alter designs and provide the client with multiple iterations of the planned building to fit the owner’s development needs. BIM technologies are currently used by architects to help owners visualise space. Owners have used these models to “virtually” walk through their planned building and confirm that the design is satisfying the project requirements. BIM is being used efficiently on a growing number of projects to communicate design in the planning phase.
Design it, Form it, Print it.... In my Design process i like to go back and forward between Sketching & 3dmax modeling. once the idea is clear i will model parametric massing to get more control and Dynamo sometimes will be a good choice if you have enough time to build the code. I like to start designing by using Form IT it’s helping to sclpture your first quick massing easily, then i have the choice based on the geometry complexty to start Revit or 3dMAX but by the end of the concept stage i must have my Revit Model, which allows full accesibilty to Floor plans, Elevations & Sections as well as the 3d model.
